The medical group of the British Friends dates back to 1926, one year after the formal opening of the Hebrew University of Jerusalem when it was initially a University dedicated to post-graduate research with focus on medicine. The original group, included some of the leading figures in the British medical establishment both research and clinical. Chaim Weizmann (later to be Israel’s first President) was deeply involved in the early days.
Our group now hosts key figures from the medical faculty of the Hebrew University, Israel’s leader in higher learning and research. Our goal is to share knowledge of the work of the medical faculty, promote its achievements, facilitate collaboration between the Hebrew University and the UK’s leading institutions whilst following a modest fund raising goal to provide scholarships in support needy students. Details of recipients are shared widely with the Medical Group who are also welcome (and encouraged) to visit our medical faculty when next in Jerusalem and to include a meeting with scholarship recipients.
The group meets in London 3-4 times a year.
