Student Village Campaign
The British Friends are en route to raising £1.5 million needed to complete Britannia House, one of the central apartment blocks at the Hebrew University’s new Student Village. The Student Village is one of the most important, most far-reaching, and yet most basic, projects undertaken by the University in the past 30 years.
70% percent of students studying at the Hebrew University come from outside Jerusalem. Almost all of them will also have completed military service before being faced with the financial burdens of tuition fees and housing expenses.
The new Scopus Student Village gives students enormous assistance. Finding cheap housing is not easy in Jerusalem, but these rooms will offer fixed rents at reasonable rates to a substantial proportion of each year’s intake.

The Village, within walking distance of Mount Scopus, will comprise 1,600 air-conditioned rooms. 11 beautiful stone buildings will overlook the Old City and the Judean Hills, from a location within easy walking distance of both the University and the shops and amenities of French Hill.
The Village will provide housing for 1,600 students. Most students will live in apartments of three to five bedrooms with shared kitchen, dining room and bathrooms; there are also a number of two-bedroom apartments for married couples and young families. All rooms are equipped with a high-speed internet connection.
The BFHU campaign encourages you to start by sponsoring the very smallest component of the building process: just one brick. Our virtual brick wall will be coming soon but until then please buy a brick by donating online. Alternatively you can print a copy of our BFHU donation form (PDF) and send the completed form in the post to us. We appreciate your support!
If you’d like to contribute a room, a floor or a wing in Britannia House, or even leave the lasting legacy of a named building, please contact Gill Benson on 020 8349 5733 or email gill.benson@bfhu.org
