Rosh Hashana Appeal

In a normal year, most students work during their summer holiday to help pay for rent, books and tuition for the coming year. This year, thousands were called for military service. Others covered shifts in hospitals, rebuilt battered houses, volunteered with homeless families and helped the emergency services, supporting displaced families from the North.

As a result two thousand extra students are asking for financial assistance to help with tuition fees, books and rent in the next few months. The University needs to provide over £2 million in grants and loans to cover their lost earnings.

Your financial assistance is vitally needed to help support the student soldiers who risked their lives this summer instead of saving to pay their fees. Now more than ever, the Hebrew University’s doors must remain open to all, regardless of students’ financial situations or the world’s political situation. In the heart of conflict in the Middle East, the University encourages dialogue between nationalities and religions – it is a truly unique place.

So far your generous support has helped to fund:

• One month's food shopping for 50 students

• Lab coats and stethoscope for 40 medical students

• Book fees for 20 final year students

• One semester's accommodation for 10 students
