Batsheva Dance Company in London

Mamootot is a captivating experience of movement and sound, performed in an Intimate environment.
Naharin, who was appointed Artistic Director in 1990, has led Batsheva to new artistic heights and worldwide critical acclaim. He has been the recipient of many awards and honours, including an Honorary Doctorate from the Hebrew U in June 2008.
From the press:
“Movement is explosive and space devouring, or slow to the point of stillness. Highly refined academic dance vocabulary sits alongside everyday gesture, and the beautiful rubs shoulders with the grotesque”.
“So it is with Mamootot's structure, which alternates sections from the group with solos that focus attention on the individual qualities of each dancer. What purpose, if any, each has is clearly up to the viewer to decide. There's no mystery, however, about the magnetic pull the performers ultimately exert on the audience”.
The Australian, January 16, 2007
“They frequently sit amongst the audience; they are not the beneficiaries of any special theatrical lighting effects; and for a while they stroll around looking intently into the audience's faces and reaching out for the occasional dignified handshake. But however intimate the setting, with no footlights for them to reach across; these nine distinctly non-glamorous dancers remain special, otherworldly beings”.
“There is nothing about Ohad Naharin's hour-long "Mamootot" that suggests they are everyday pedestrian folks like the rest of us. Their fierce concentration and primal alertness endow them with a heightened sense of timing that has them constantly surprising us mere mortals with their sudden risings from their seats”.
