The Hebrew U invests in its Alumni
The first Alumni International Council meeting aimed at reconnecting the Hebrew U Alumni worldwide, took place at the Board of Governors meeting in Jerusalem last month.
Present at the meeting were representatives from Israel and other countries across the globe.
The Hebrew University has recently taken steps to create a global Alumni Association with chapters across the world.

A new department focused solely on alumni has been created by the University: The Division for Development and Public Relations is headed by Gideon Salinger. Gideon’s task is to coordinate the work of the University’s Israel-based alumni association as well as other associations around the world. He will work on developing outreach programmes for alumni thus encouraging them to take part in a wide range of activities aimed at strengthening their involvement with the Hebrew University. The Alumni International Council will serve as the top leadership body for the alumni, setting goals and objectives and overseeing alumni activities worldwide.
Thus, at this year’s Board of Governors meeting the first-ever gathering of the Alumni International Council took place, attended by alumni representatives from across the globe. Nicola Cobbold, co–chair of the Hebrew University Alumni Association – UK, led a stimulating debate on the goals and objectives of the Council, with a presentation about the UK chapter: our vision, our targets, our structure and our plans for the future. Following the meeting we hope branches will now be launched in Australia, Canada and the US. The Europeans have already followed the UK lead and launched earlier this year. Out-going President of the University, Professor Menachem Magidor, and Rector, Professor Sarah Stroumsa, both attended the Council. Their unequivocal support and belief that the University’s alumni are its future have been a driving force in establishing the Alumni International Council and the University’s support for this important initiative.
