Unique Alumni Events - past and future

The Hebrew University Alumni Association – UK aims to bring you closer to the Hebrew University through a series of events and programs.

Plan ahead and save the date - our next event is on the 29th April - with Prof Eitan Gross sharing the latest discoveries in Cancer Research. Details to follow.

Those of you who attended our last event, enjoyed a fascinating evening with Mr Gil Erez, Minister for Commercial Affairs and Hebrew University’s Prof. Eran Feitelson, specialising in water policies, who shared incredible insights into the complexities and uniqueness of the Israeli – Palestinian water conflict, with frameworks for solutions.

We also had a great honour to have Prof. Menahem Ben-Sasson, the President of the Hebrew University, as our guest, in one of our most fascinatingg event 'Where Science Means Business - an Introduction to Yissum', with Ms. Michal Kainan Koren, Yissum Director of Marketing. Prof. Ben Sasson said worm words about the strong bonding between the Hebrew University and its alumni around the world. ¨Yissum is the venture arm of the Hebrew University (HU), incubating the ideas and inventions from HU and growing them into successful businesses.

We are delighted to have enjoyed a successful 2009, with hundreds of alumni joining in a variety of events and functions, which included; a thought provoking evening on climate change in February, with expert, Dr. Mayer Hillman. Dr Hillman spoke about the harsh inescapable truths and moral dilemmas we face vis a vis our planet.

May saw us hosting a breakfast briefing with prominent law Professor, Alon Harel. Prof Harel shared a superb insight into the role of the Israeli Supreme Court, and the challenges of maintaining human rights in the fight against terrorism.

Managing Director of the Diamond Trading Company International (DTC), the rough diamond distribution arm of the De Beers group, Mrs Varda Shine, gave us a unique overview of the global diamond business in June. A highlight of the evening was the magnificent diamond ring that was the first prize in our raffle.

Dr. Emanuele Ottolenghi, one of the University’s most respected alumni, fascinated a packed breakfast with his expert insight into recent events in the Persian Gulf and the reality of the threat of a nuclear Iran - ‘Under a Mushroom Cloud – Europe, Iran and the bomb’.

In September Prof. Alon Harel visited us once again, focusing this time on Human Rights in Israel – exposing the myths and realities.

For Rosh Hashanah, we enjoyed a mouth watering cookery demonstration with our Alumna Silvia Nacamulli who shared traditional Jewish recipes for this special holiday, hosted in the beautiful kitchen of another successful Hebrew U alumna – Leora Torn-Hibler.
