The Inaugural Annual Sacher Lecture

The Inaugural Annual Sacher Lecture
4th December 2017 BFHU Team

Prof. Robert Post delivered the Inaugural Annual Sacher Lecture, a fascinating and important lecture on freedom of speech in the University.

Prof. Robert Post is one of the most important constitutional law scholars in the world. He discussed the differences between freedom of speech and academic freedom, the philosophical justifications for both of these rights as well as current legal issues, and touched upon some timely examples from the United States as well as Israel.

Before the lecture, Prof Michael Karayanni, Dean of The Faculty of Law, spoke with gratitude about the longstanding relationship between the Faculty and the Sacher family, and about the role John Sacher z”l played in this regard. Prof. Guy Davidov, the current Director of the Sacher Institute, read a letter sent by Jerry Sacher and added his own words of thanks to the family whose connection to the Hebrew University date back to even before the formal opening in 1925
