Daniel Felsenstein was a member of the UK Track & Field Squad in the 1981 Maccabiah Games.

Daniel stayed in Israel for a few weeks following the games and ended up visiting the Mt Scopus campus. “A chance meeting with a faculty member led me to rethink my plans, and I decided to register for HUJI,” shares Daniel. “I managed to ease right into my studies, and ultimately completed my PhD degree at the university.” By the next Maccabiah games, Daniel represented Israel in track & field.

Fast Forward 40 years…

Prof. Daniel Felsenstein served as Chair of Hebrew University’s Geography Department from 2016-2020, and currently heads our new international Master’s program in Smart Cities and Urban Informatics. “I may not have gotten a medal in 1981,” says Danny, “but I did earn a career.”

And the Hebrew University gained a remarkable alumnus and faculty member!
