Yuval Shany Talks Human Rights in Cyberspace at Limmud UK 2022
4th January 2023 Lindy Diamond

Prof Yuval Shany spoke at Limmud UK in December 2022, attracting a young audience.

Human Rights for the Digital Age described and analysed the developments of human rights in cyberspace, chronicling three ‘generations’ of rights: reinterpretation of existing rights (privacy, speech), introduction of new rights (right to be forgotten, internet access) and the emergence of new right holders and duty holders (virtual persons and online platforms).

Several members of the audience declared fond personal connections to HU.

Professor Shany is the Hersch Lauterpacht chair in international law and former dean of the law faculty of the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. He was a member of the UN Human Rights Committee from 2013 to 2020 and served for one year during that time as chair of the committee.
