Ben Myers, Deputy Head of Mission at the British Embassy in Israel, visited the Hebrew University Safra Campus. Since his appointment in January 2023, Mr Myers has brought his extensive diplomatic experience to strengthening UK-Israel relations, with a particular focus on areas of shared excellence such as scientific innovation and collaboration.

The visit began with a tour of the Einstein Archives, where Mr Myers was warmly hosted by Anna Rabin, Information Officer at the Archive. During this visit, Mr Myers learned about Einstein’s life, his work and his connection to the UK. He was shown both Einstein’s Nobel Prize and the medal he had received.

Following the Archives, Mr Myers met with Professor Yossi Paltiel, Dean of the Faculty of Science, Michal Hai-Attiass, Associate Dean of the Faculty of Science, and Noa Gordon-Assayag, Administrative Director of the Center for Nanoscience and Nanotechnology. He then toured the Nano Center, where he was introduced to the groundbreaking work being done at the center, as well as potential opportunities for collaboration with UK-based research.

At the end of the visit, Mr Myers was presented with a special gift: an enlarged version of a coin from the Second Temple period, discovered on Mt Scopus. The coin underwent a process of lithography, revealing its ancient writing. Mr Myers was deeply moved by this gesture, remarking, “The work done in this center is undoubtedly groundbreaking. I leave this short visit much more educated than when I came.”

This visit further strengthened the ties between our institutions and is a testament to our continued collaboration in advancing science, innovation and education.
