The President of Argentina, Javier Milei, visited the Hebrew University of Jerusalem on the 12th of June, where he delivered a keynote address highlighting his economic policies and the enduring relationship between Argentina and Israel. During the visit, President Milei was presented with the Jerusalem Crown Bible by University President Professor Asher Cohen, and he also met with Daniel Lischinsky, father of Yaron Lischinsky z”l, a Hebrew University alumnus tragically murdered in a recent terrorist attack.
Addressing a packed hall of students and faculty, President Milei outlined his economic doctrine, detailing the reforms he has implemented to transform Argentina’s economy. He emphasised his commitment to peace and free trade, describing the United States and Israel as Argentina’s key allies. Reflecting on a poignant moment from his election campaign, President Milei shared:
“While touring a neighbourhood in Buenos Aires, a young boy approached me and handed me a white cloth on which he had drawn the Israeli flag with a Star of David. I want to tell you—this is the most moving flag I have ever received.”
At the outset of the event, Professor Asher Cohen presented President Milei with the Jerusalem Crown Bible, the university’s official edition of the ancient holy scriptures. This codified and meticulously edited Bible, produced by university scholars, is used in the swearing-in ceremonies of members of the Knesset and the President of the State of Israel.

During his visit, President Milei also met with Daniel Lischinsky, whose son Yaron—an alumnus of the Hebrew University—was murdered alongside his partner, Sarah Milgrim z”l, in a terrorist attack in Washington last month. The president expressed his heartfelt condolences to Mr Lischinsky.
President Milei’s visit underscores the deep and lasting bonds between Argentina and Israel, and highlights Hebrew University’s role as a bridge for international dialogue and cooperation.
