The Hebrew University of Jerusalem, in collaboration with the Machneyuda Group led by chefs Assaf Granit and Uri Navon, has launched “Hashafan” (“the rabbit”), a new food truck on the Edmond J. Safra Campus in Givat Ram.
Located in the campus library plaza, Hashafan offers a kosher meat menu inspired by Jerusalem street food, serving thousands of students, faculty members, and visitors. The menu reflects the group’s signature culinary style while remaining accessible, with dishes priced between 22 and 55 NIS.
The food truck will officially open on Friday, May 8, 2026, as part of the Hebrew University’s Open Day, welcoming prospective students and guests to campus. Regular operating hours will be Sunday through Thursday starting at noon.
Chef Uri Navon commented:
“Our collaboration with the Hebrew University at the Edmond J. Safra Campus in Givat Ram is a natural fit for us. It’s an opportunity to cook for and connect with the student and faculty community on their home turf, offering affordable food at a high level, without compromising on the quality of our ingredients. The Machneyuda Group is proud to operate in a place where its work is valued and appreciated, in Jerusalem in general and at the Hebrew University in particular.”
The launch of Hashafan follows the recent opening of the Machneyuda Group’s restaurant on campus, located in Belgium House, which offers a 120-seat meat-based chef’s menu in the group’s signature Machane Yehuda style. Nearby, the new Senior Faculty Club provides a 50-seat space for research collaboration, meetings, and events, contributing to a growing hub of academic and social activity.
Hashafan continues to expand the partnership between the Hebrew University and the Machneyuda Group, bringing high-quality, contemporary Jerusalem cuisine into the heart of campus life.
