The Hebrew University of Jerusalem yesterday welcomed H.E. Lt. General (Rtd) Albert Kendagor, Ambassador of the Republic of Kenya to the State of Israel, for a visit focused on expanding academic collaboration between Israel and Kenya.
During the visit, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) and a Student Exchange Agreement were signed between the Hebrew University and the University of Nairobi, marking a significant milestone in fostering academic cooperation and student mobility between the two institutions.
Building on HUJI’s longstanding ties with leading Kenyan universities, these new agreements will promote joint research, academic exchanges, and collaborative projects in key areas such as food security, climate change, renewable energy, and education.
Over the years, the Hebrew University has welcomed numerous Kenyan students pursuing degrees across disciplines including agriculture, public health, and the social sciences. The renewed partnership aims to further strengthen these academic bridges and encourage mutual learning between scholars and students from both nations.
As part of the visit, Ambassador Kendagor was presented with an Albert Einstein book by Prof Oron Shagrir, Rector of the Hebrew University, a gesture that drew a warm smile from the Ambassador, who noted with amusement that he, too, shares the name Albert.
Also participating in the visit were Amb. Yossi Gal, HUJI’s Vice President for External Relations; Prof Saul Burdman, Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture, Food and Environment; and Prof Guy Harpaz, Vice President for International Affairs. Ambassador Kendagor also met Stanley Mburu, a Kenyan MA student in HUJI’s GLOCAL – International Development program, who shared his experience studying in Jerusalem.
