Join us for this not-to-be-missed talk by Dr Efrat Kelmer, Senior Clinical Lecturer, Department of Emergency and Critical Care, at the Hebrew University Veterinary Teaching Hospital.
Dr Kelmer has served as department head for 10 years, and is currently a senior clinical lecturer. She has continued to author and co-author publications and book chapters in various subjects related to critical care medicine. Dr Kelmer joined the European College of Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care in 2015. She has a special interest in trauma, sepsis, coagulation and environmental emergencies.
The Hebrew University’s internationally renowned Veterinary Teaching Hospital of the Koret School of Veterinary Medicine is unique in Israel and the Middle East. Hear about the extraordinary and professional treatment given to creatures great and small. The hospital is the heart of the Veterinary School and the site at which the students receive their clinical training.
Dr Kelmer graduated from HU Veterinary Teaching Hospital in 2001. Following her studies, she moved to the US and completed a master's degree in immunology, followed by an internship and a small animal ECC residency at the University of Missouri. She then served as an Assistant Professor at the University of Knoxville, before returning to Israel to become the first emergency and critical care diplomate in her country.
The Veterinary Teaching Hospital receives patients directly from the public and referral cases from veterinarians: dogs, cats, horses, birds, small animals, exotic animals and everything in between. An emergency service operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Of the total number of over 12,000 cases received each year, more than 75% are referral cases from veterinarians around the country.
This hospital is unique in that it is the only hospital in Israel with modern facilities and equipment staffed by more than 45 veterinarians and a comprehensive range of internationally and nationally recognised specialists. The hospital has more than 23 internationally recognised specialists.
