The Lionel Cohen Annual Lecture [since 1953] will be delivered at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem by the Right Honourable Lord Burnett of Maldon on ‘Institutional Independence and Accountability of the Judiciary’.

Lord Burnett will explore the nature of the institutional independence of the judiciary, its relationship with judicial accountability and their importance for the rule of law.

This is a free on-campus event and will be also be live-streamed on Zoom.

Who Will You See There?

The Right Honourable The Lord Burnett of Maldon studied law at Pembroke College, Oxford. He was called to the Bar in 1980 and became a pupil and then a member of Temple Garden Chambers, where he practised until May 2008, for the last five years as head of Chambers.

He was appointed Lord Chief Justice of England and Wales on 1 October 2017.

He is President of all the Court of England and Wales, sits in both the Criminal and Civil divisions of the Court of Appeal, in the Divisional Court and also, by invitation, in the Supreme Court.
