The Bezalel Narkiss Index of Jewish Art is the world’s largest repository of Jewish material culture, documenting over 400,000 images and artifacts from around the globe.
The Bezalel Narkiss Index of Jewish Art is a major project of the Center for Jewish Art at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. It serves as a comprehensive database that preserves and documents Jewish artistic heritage, including artifacts, architecture, and visual culture from various periods and regions.
The index currently includes more than 400,000 images sourced from approximately 800 museums, libraries, private collections, and synagogues worldwide.
But now, as the Index is not only an iconographical database, but also the world’s largest repository of documentation of Jewish material culture, it has been decided that this feature should be reflected in its title.
From now on it will be called the Bezalel Narkiss Index of Jewish Art and Material Culture.
We sincerely invite all of you to explore the Index , and get a glance at all the vast cultural riches in it’s catalogue.
