A Note from the Office of the Hebrew University President, Prof Tamir Sheafer:
Members of the Hebrew University community,
After two painful years filled with sorrow, concern, and waiting, our hearts finally find a measure of comfort.
We share in the joy of the hostages returning home to their families and look forward to days of healing and recovery. We continue to hope for the return of all the fallen hostages who are still being held in Gaza.
Even on this day of joy and relief, we remember with heavy hearts the civilians and soldiers who were murdered and killed in the war, their families who face immeasurable loss, and the thousands who were wounded in body and spirit.
We honor the soldiers and members of the security forces who risked their lives in the longest war in the country’s history — among them some 8,000 of our students. Their courage will forever be engraved in our hearts, and we thank all those who continue to protect us every single day.
In these days, our joy is mixed with sorrow — but also with deep hope for the future.
Even now, we are called upon — as the Hebrew University community — to look ahead and uphold our commitment to building a better future: one of reconciliation, of research, innovation, and development; of academic collaboration in Israel and around the world; and of nurturing an environment that enables a better reality for generations to come.
Yours,
Prof. Tamir Sheafer, President
Prof. Oron Shagrir, Rector
