The Henrietta Szold Hadassah – Hebrew University School of Nursing (Henrietta Szold SON), together with the Hadassah Women’s Zionist Organization of America (HWZOA), the Hebrew University of Jerusalem (HUJI), and the Hadassah Medical Organization (HMO), announces a new phase in the development of the School, reflecting a shared commitment to strengthening nursing education, research, and leadership in Israel.
Founded through the vision and leadership of Hadassah and inspired by the legacy of Henrietta Szold, the School has played a pioneering role in shaping professional nursing education in Israel. Over the decades, the partnership between Hadassah, the Hebrew University, and the Hadassah Medical Organization has helped build a strong academic and clinical foundation for nursing education and scholarship.
This next phase of development reflects a joint effort by the School’s leadership and faculty together with its institutional partners to further strengthen the academic foundations of nursing, expand research capacity, and support innovation in nursing education in response to the evolving needs of modern healthcare systems.
As part of this effort, collaboration will continue to deepen between the Henrietta Szold SON and the nursing schools affiliated with the Hebrew University, including the Academic School of Nursing at Shamir Medical Center (Assaf Harofeh) and the Academic School of Nursing at Kaplan Medical Center. Strengthening coordination and collaboration among these institutions will contribute to the continued development of a strong and integrated academic framework for nursing education and research.
To support the advancement of this initiative, Professor Asher Ben Arieh has been appointed Rector’s Envoy. In this role, he will work with the leadership of the School, HUJI, HWZOA, and HMO, together with faculty and institutional partners, to help facilitate coordination and advance key elements of this effort.
The initiative will focus on strengthening academic infrastructure, expanding research capacity, advancing educational innovation, and fostering international academic partnerships that will support the continued growth of nursing education and scholarship.
Together, the Henrietta Szold SON, HWZOA, HUJI and HMO reaffirm their shared commitment to advancing nursing science, education, and leadership, and to strengthening the foundations that will support the continued development of the nursing profession and health care in Israel and the world in the years ahead.
Carol Ann Schwartz, National President, Hadassah Women’s Zionist Organization of America (HWZOA)
“The School reflects Hadassah’s longstanding commitment to advancing professional nursing in Israel and ensuring that nursing education continues to evolve to meet the changing needs of healthcare systems and society. HWZOA is proud to work together with the Hebrew University and the Hadassah Medical Organization to advance a new phase in the School’s development while building on the historic foundation established by Hadassah. ”
Yoram Weiss, Director General, Hadassah Medical Organization
“Since its earliest days, Hadassah has played a pioneering role in nursing education in Israel. Inspired by the vision of Henrietta Szold, who championed the professional training of nurses in this country, we are proud to support this important initiative, which will further strengthen the leadership and impact of Hadassah’s nurses for the benefit of patients and the healthcare system as a whole.”
Professor Tamir Sheafer, President, The Hebrew University of Jerusalem
“Nursing is no longer defined solely by the act of care, but by the rigorous science that informs it. At the Hebrew University, we recognize that the future of global healthcare depends on robust nursing research, the kind that drives clinical innovation and reshapes health policy. By appointing Professor Ben-Arieh as Rector’s Envoy, we are doubling down on our commitment to transform the Henrietta Szold Hadassah – Hebrew University School of Nursing into a world-class powerhouse of scientific inquiry. Our goal is clear: to ensure that our nursing scholars are not only participating in the medical conversations of tomorrow but leading them.”
